Join Community Tree Steward Emma in searching for black (brown) ash seeds across several properties! We will be looking for black ash trees bearing seeds in order to collect the seeds for community science. If trees with enough seeds are identified, the seeds will be collected and then sent to APCAW: Ash Protection Collaboration Across Waponahkik, whose aim is to bring more awareness of the cultural and ecological significance of brown ash. Ash trees are under threat in Maine through the arrival of the Emerald Ash Borer.
If you have binoculars please bring them, as well as a water bottle. Waterproof shoes or shoes you don’t mind getting wet are highly recommended for this event as we will be walking along and through wet areas.
We will be walking about a mile on relatively flat trails out to the trees. While the terrain may not be the most difficult, we will be going off trail into the woods.
