Calling all trail enthusiasts! Each spring, when the snow melts and ground dries, stewards walk their properties to check trails, pick up winter debris, and get the woods ready for the busy recreation season ahead.
Join us at Coburn Woods in Skowhegan for an afternoon of stewardship and community as we help tidy the trails and surrounding areas. This event will focus on tidying as many trails in the trail network we can get to! Depending on interest and volunteer availability, we may even have a crew start at one of the West End trailheads.
This event is best suited for active volunteers who are prepared to hike 1-2 miles during this event. However, there will be volunteer tasks for people of all ages and from all walks of life.
Volunteer tasks include:
Blowdown bucking and removal
Litter pickup and pack out
Clearing small branches from trails
Lopping trail corridors as needed
Removing excess flagging tape
Shovel and transport mulch into trail low spots
No experience is necessary (unless you're operating a chainsaw), so bring sturdy shoes, work gloves if you have them, trimming tools, and trash bags. This is a great opportunity to spend time outdoors, give back to a local trail system, and celebrate Earth Week with fellow community members.
If you can’t make it for the full 3 hour block, please come when you can (letting Rachel know so she can provide you a volunteer task).
We will have pizza post work. Hope to see you there!
