Walk & Talk Whitten Woods in New Portland

Meeting at Trailhead 2 off Middle Road, we will travel old woods roads and forest trails down to the river. Terrain is relatively mild, but tread (footpath) is uneven, with potentially wet or muddy footing. These trails are maintained by volunteers, but have not been developed. Waterproof footwear and hiking poles are recommended.

What you can look forward to: exploring the lesser known side of this preserve (this preserve is well known for its proximity to the Wire Bridge), parking in the newly improved parking areas, seeing the “Big Rock,” and observing the quiet forest in fall transition along the Carrabassett River.
