Trail Marking at Parkman Hill Farm

  • Parkman Hill Farm 380 Parkman Hill Road Solon, ME, 04979 United States (map)

Get out and into the woods with Rachel and Ayden to learn about and practice trail marking!

We will take to the woods to mark some of our newly developed trails at Parkman Hill Farm. This is an opportunity to learn how and why we mark our trails, to get comfortable with using paint brushes and paint in the field, and to learn about the thought and planning behind each of these new trails - as well as a chance to get outside and into the woods!

We will go after our new bog trail (pink trail) and our new woods connector trail (orange trail), which connects the farmhouse and upper portion of the property to our lower meadows and trails, including College Ave, McCarty Road, and the McCarty meadow trails.

This approximately 2-hour-long event is a great chance to get acquainted with the Parkman Hill Farm trail system, especially if you’re uncomfortable walking them alone, and will offer both a more accessible, shorter walk and a longer walk for those who are comfortable traveling in the woods in the winter. Both trails involve walking over fairly uneven and hilly terrain, as well as walking in relatively deep snow. Make sure to bring plenty of layers, gloves, a hat, a coat or large shirt you don’t mind getting some paint on (paint will stain), snacks, snowshoes or winter boots, and something warm to drink!

Volunteers should meet at the red barn at Parkman Hill Farm, 380 Parkman Hill Rd., Solon.
