Norway Maple Pull at Jacobs Pines Preserve

  • Jacob Pines Preserve East Madison, Maine United States (map)

Week of July 20th (date weather dependent)

Help the stewardship crew with invasive species removal at Jacobs Pines Preserve in East Madison.

Invasive species are organisms that spread beyond their native range and cause harm to local ecosystems. Norway maple, a popular landscaping tree introduced from Europe, spreads aggressively into Maine forests where it casts dense shade and outcompetes native trees and wildflowers (Boooo!👎). Over time, Norway's take over and we lose the biodiversity that makes Maine's outdoor scenery so special… and this is happening at Jacobs Pines

We'll focus on mechanical removal, which means pulling saplings, ideally when soils are moist so no root fragments get left behind (hence, date TBD closer to time based on the weather forecast).

By attending this event, you will not only learn how to identify a Norway Maple, but you will also contribute to stewardship of a very special place!

We hope to see you there!
