Forest Health Walk

  • Coburn Woods 118 Russell Rd Skowhegan, ME, 04976 United States (map)

Join Somerset Woods’ consulting forester Jon Doty for a walk and talk through the trees at Coburn Woods. Jon will help us take a closer look at the health of this 300-acre conserved forest. Donated by Louise Coburn, Coburn Woods has been managed by Somerset Woods for timber and recreation values for nearly 100 years. Now, new threats to the Maine Woods have arrived in Somerset County. Emerald Ash Borer, a non-native insect, has been documented within the county and will have severe impacts on the forest composition on our conserved lands, including Coburn Woods. Beech Leaf Disease has also taken hold, with an anticipated high mortality rate for beech trees within 10 years. What do these changes mean for Coburn Woods? What are the management options? Join us for a lively Sunday afternoon walk and talk!

Participants should wear sturdy shoes, practice tick safety, and be prepared for walking off trail.
