JENNA PAYNE, ROCKEFELLER CONSERVATION INTERN

Jenna just graduated from the University of Maine at Farmington with a B.S. in geology and a B.S. in environmental science. Growing up in Kennebunk, she was exposed to the outdoors starting from a very young age. She could be found by the pond in her yard looking for frogs and turtles, the woods looking for salamanders, and birds, or the beach looking for cool rocks and shells.

Before joining Somerset Woods Trustees, she did two internships with the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife that included following a state biologist and raptor specialist around western Maine. She got to join in on many projects, including American kestrel nest watch/banding, Canada goose banding, peregrine falcon surveys, and setting up turtle and duck traps.

Outside of Somerset Woods, Jenna can be found hiking western Maine’s mountains or taking photos with her film camera.

The Richard G. Rockefeller Conservation Internship is a program of Maine Coast Heritage Trust. The intention of the program is to engage Maine college-aged people in the land conservation world and develop their skills and knowledge of land conservation in Maine (especially stewardship of the land). Somerset Woods is pleased to be a host site for a third year in 2025 as part of our commitment to stewarding the next generation of conservation leaders.
