Join Peter Pfeiffer at his woodlot in Solon for a morning focused on herbicide-free methods of encouraging a healthy stand of young trees after a harvest. Peter will touch on tree identification, thinning, and pruning of crop trees. He will also demonstrate his tools and techniques of choice, and show participants the results of his work in an area which he thinned and pruned in years past.
Peter has worked in the Maine woods since 1974, often on his carefully tended 113-acre woodlot in Solon conserved with Somerset Woods Trustees in 2008. Peter has twice been named the Somerset County Tree Farmer of the Year, and in 2018 he was named the Certified Logging Professionals Logger of the Year.
The workshop will begin at Peter's mailbox on the Hole in the Wall Road in Solon. Participants will then informally carpool with stops and side-trips into the woods along Lily Pond Road.
