Join Somerset Woods Trustees to help split firewood for Somerset Woods Share, a firewood bank aiming to help those in Somerset County with heating emergencies by supplying small allotments of free firewood as needed during the winter months. The purpose of this event is to start building up the SWS firewood reserves so they are seasoned and ready for distribution later this winter. This event will entail mainly the splitting and stacking of firewood.
Participants should expect to arrive for a safety chat, volunteer sign-in, PPE distribution, and then a short walk down to the field at the bottom of the hill. If you have it, please bring ear/eye protection, gloves, and boots. Somerset Woods can provide ear protection and gloves if needed.
This event is suitable for those 14 years old and up. Any cutting/bucking of logs will be done by SWT-approved sawyers. Proper PPE (sturdy boots, eye/ear protection, and gloves) will be expected of all participants, with additional proper PPE for any sawyers.
To participate, sign up for this event here. We ask that all participants RSVP so we can prepare the necessary tools and PPE.
Directions: 380 Parkman Hill Road, Solon ME 04976. You can park at the yellow house near the top of the hill. This is where we will meet before walking down to the field at the bottom of the hill.
